New Brunswick EMR Transition
In 2021, New Brunswick moved from a single government-run EMR to an open market of certified EMR vendors, partnering with OntarioMD to run the certification process. This gave physicians more choice in which EMR to use, but it also means practices need to actively confirm they’re on a certified system to stay eligible for provincial integrations and funding.
Currently, only two EMRs hold active certification in New Brunswick: TELUS CHR and IntraHealth Profile. Being on a certified EMR isn’t just a technical detail, it affects real funding. Provincial funding for non-certified EMRs is temporary and ends March 31, 2029, and certified practices are eligible for incentives like the $10,000 Certified EMR Implementation Incentive, plus access to provincial integrations such as the EHR Clinical Viewer and electronic lab results. Many practices haven’t yet planned for what that transition actually involves.
